From an ExPat friend in Panama, comment on Boquete:
The trouble with Boquete is that majority of the foreigners (American, Canadian, European, Middle East, Far East, etc.) that has money seem to flaunt it. This throws up a target on them. The thieves have computers and they too read the yahoogroups. Many tend to brag about their wealth or in some cases pretend wealth and this paints a big red target on them. It has been brought up many times at the ex-pat meetings to not do this but it continues. The bad part is that 1 or 2 do it, it also paints a target on the rest that are foreigners as well because they automatically assume we all have big money. The best thing to do is keep a low profile and have many Panamanian (Good Friends) that will guide you correctly. Funny thing, my best friend who is Panamanian said basically the same thing tonight to a couple new people in La Chorrera. Hopefully they take heed. Boquete often is much more expensive in hiring help. It used to be very reasonable, but it took just a few that flaunted their money and over paid the norm and shot the prices up.
