Cash vs Credit Card?

Hi,
My husband and I are heading to Panama for a scouting trip (meeting an attorney...etc) and we have 2 hotels booked. I've already paid for one and am assuming I can pay with a credit card for the other. My question is do restaurants in Panama City and El Valle take credit cards? I am assuming taxis and buses take cash. We are staying for 1 week this time. What are your recommendations? I am a little nervous bringing a lot of cash...anywhere...even in the US.
