I will be traveling to Panama later this year for my first trip (and hopefully not my last) to see the country and I'm trying to get as much info as possible before heading out.
I've seen advice regarding the difficulty (if not impossibility) of using large bills such as $50s and $100s and also warnings that many places deal only in cash. But I haven't seen anything to really give me a feel for whether it is better to come with plenty of cash (which of course comes with the risk that it can be lost or stolen) or bring a small amount and use ATM machines for ongoing cash needs.
What I'd like is to hear from several folks on each preference and to know why you prefer the method you recommend.
