To all, I have lived in the country in Panama in the Las Tablas área for 5 years. Call me wierd if you want. But, Security is not convenient. Ever. But, it is a necessary part of life in Panama. Anything that is not nailed down here will be taken from you. Period. We all have to learn this lesson. Everything must be chained up or kept inside your house. When you are deciding on renting a house, the more security that is already installed the better and it is worth every penny to pay more to get it. Metal bars on Windows. Razor wire. Barbed wire fencing. Anytype of fencing that makes it difficult to get a truck up close to your house. Ect. Remember, most folks don't have insurance here for theft. And, as Xpats we are targeted. Anything that you might think is not that valuable is valuable to the locals. They have a mind set that is a Little different. They feel absolutely no guilt complex about stealing from the xpat. Its like the Robin Hood story. Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. I mean everything. From your clothes on the line to your Little BBQ grill to every last Little knife spoon and freaking fork you own they will take that if given the absolute mínimum chance. No wonder safety is the top of my list for living in Panama and I know from experience that they will steal things that you never thought anyone would steal. Chew on that Xpats.
