Panama live on the beach?

I am leaving all behind April 1. Was going to Costa Rica BUT everyone is saying go to Panama. I'm in my early 50's, coming solo and want beach, safe and simple life. Love swimming in the ocean and will look for long term rentals when I arrive.
Any help is appreciated.
