Eating in San Jose

I do have a question about traveling to San Jose from Panama City. Let's assume that I am down in Panama and I have the proper residency paperwork filled out. Let's also assume I have the proper visa for Costa Rica. Now I discover there are no Indian restaurants in Panama but plenty in San Jose (for the sake of argument) I decide to go to eat at one. When I think about it, things can get quite complicated. For instance:

What is the distance between the 2 cities and how long does it take to drive there?

If I have a valid Panama license, will it be valid for driving in San Jose?

If I take a cab there, will I have to switch to a San Jose cab at the border?

What about currency? How do I convert dollar currency to Costa Rica currency? Or would I need to use credit cards, to make things easier?

Things can get rather complicated quickly. Can anyone shed some light here? Also, has any personally visited San Jose? If so, what is your impression, as compared to Panama City?
