Lawyer?

I received the name of a lawyer from an expat I met on a forum. I emailed the lawyer, finally heard back and he requested I send him scanned copies of our passports and my college diploma. This way he could determine what visas we can apply for and quote a price. Since then it has been a couple weeks. Should I be worried? I understand the whole mañana attitude, but a part of me is a bit nervous. If this was a scam is there anything someone can do with that information?
