We've been in Coronado now for over a month. I've been told a few different stories about why the roads here are so hideous. Story #1 involves a long ago conflict between Coronado's founder (George Eisenmann ) and the Panamanian government (according to Wikipedia there was indeed a major conflict between Eisenmann as publisher of La Prensa and various corrupt governments of the past. This conflict resulted in Coronado not paying taxes and as a consequence, the Panamanian gov't won't maintain the roads here. Story #2 says that it is rainy season now and that the roads will be fixed up once rainy season is over. (hahaha). Story #3 involves many of the uber riche living here driving major sized SUVs which aren't bothered by the craters, mountains and jagged rocks which are the main features of most of the roads. The spin-off for these uber-riche is that they don't have the average gawker in his tiny sedan pestering these fine folk with their eyeballs while the parties proceed. I'd be interested in hearing what others have heard. We live on a "road" called Paseo George Smith. I couldn't find out who George Smith was in relation to Coronado yet, but if George Smith is still around, he'd probably have to put a paper bag over his head in shame about this highway of hell says about him.
