I have read it is very difficult to build in Panama because:
1. Contractors will not use blue prints I draw. They insist Prints come from a Panama architect.
2. I can not hire craftsmen. They are sort of unionized in that they will only work for a Panama contractor.
Are those allegations true? My next question is as an expat can I get a mortgage in Panama? I can afford to build or buy on a cash basis, but my financial manager advises me to do a mortgage and that way if something goes wrong a year down the line I can walk away loosing only my down payment.
