Hi.
Having read through all the posts here regarding the required Criminal Background Check, if applying for a residence permit............I noticed that everyone hands over the document in English, to their lawyers, who eventually get it translated into Spanish, here in Panama.
My question: what if the issuing authority in your home country can generate the document in Spanish already?
I'm Swedish. I'm about to prepare all my documentation, and have them apostilled. The authority in my home country asked me : "in what language do I want the document generated?"
When I told them that it's needed by the Panamanian government, they naturally assumed that I would want it in Spanish, not English.
I consulted my lawyer, and he told me to generate the document in English. Which I find a bit odd............seeing as, it would have to be translated into Spanish anyway, and this would only cost more money.
Can anyone shed light on this? Must the document be in English? I mean, is it that the Panamanians prefer to do the translation themselves --- (once again: makes no sense) ---, or is it that my lawyer wants me to pay extra for translation services??
