Greetings.
I moved here from Sweden a year ago.
I've got a teenage son back home, for whom I am still paying alimony.
All payments are made from my bank account (in Sweden) to my ex-wife's account. This has always been the case.
In the wake of the nonsense with the Panama papers recently, banks across Europe have been carrying out all sorts of random inquiries, checks, etc, etc, at least, this is what my friends tell me (expats from Europe, living in Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia). Especially, if they notice that you now reside outside Europe (and, more especially, in Panama)
My bank contacted me last month, inquiring :
(a) why am I no longer "actively" using my account?
(b) what was the reason for the wire transfer I made from Panama to my account in Sweden, as well as to my ex's account?
(c) blah, blah
I explained: I no longer work or reside in Sweden. I now live in Panama. But, I need my account in Sweden to remain open, so I can make those monthly alimony payments. That's the only reason.
They took all this down, and said they will be in touch.
Last night, another message from them: "they do not see any reason or justification for keeping my account with them, if I am not banking with them. They recommend that I transfer all my funds to Panama, and close my account!"
Has anyone else (from Europe) experienced this?
