Skin/Bug Bites

We are 4 days in to our new life in Panama & we already love our new surroundings. There is one irritation, our skin! Since we have arrived we have been experiencing what appears to be extremely itchy bug bites on our legs, ankles and arms. It reminds me of "chiggers" in Texas or "no see um's" in the south. Does anyone know what is causing it and or how to treat it and stop it?
