Seeking residency advice

I'm planning to emigrate to a country in Central or South America when I retire. I'm just starting to plan and Panama seems a likely location. I speak a little Spanish and I have a middle class income. I want to get permanent residency for my children before retiring or getting a pensionado visa. They are over the dependency age. They won't be working in Panama before I retire. (Part of why I'm looking at Panama is they don't have to live in Panama until we move.) Can anyone give me some more information about the "friendly nations visa.?" Also, how do I find a reputable lawyer and what would be the approximate cost? I'm not moving for any business or tax reasons-- its just a personal move. What is the time frame? Thanks in advance for your help.
