I know many people have moved out of the States to both Central and South American Countries are happy with their decision, but I just don't see it. I have been dying to move out of the States for many reasons, but these countries seem to offer a worse situation, not better. I am a single retired male looking for a simple, quiet life surrounded by nice people in a place with nice weather. A place where crime is not a big deal. A place were you can walk around day or night and not be too worried about be ing mugged. A place were I can leave my apartment for several days and not have to worry about returning to find my stuff gone. I have visited several CA countries including Mexico and have done years of research and have found nothing in this region that satisfies these minimal requirements. I can afford the costs to live in these countries. I'm pretty patient and have a lot of time to deal with all the slowness and paperwork. I'm not looking for any country to cater to my needs. Just looking for what most people are looking for anywhere in the world. Affordable living, nice climate, nice people and low crime rate. If you know any place like that in CA, I would really like to know. This is what I found so far: Ecuador=crime problems, cost of living rising, Costa Rica- big increase in crime and big increase in cost of living, Panama- crime increasing, slow increase of cost of living, Belieze is crap shoot with crime, Nicaragua-crime and cost of living increasing, terrible infrastructure, Guatamala, forget it, Colombia-crime still a problem and they tax out of country income around 15% after living in country more than 180 days.
This might sound like I am asking a lot but I think I'm asking for what most people want: low crime, quiet, affordable, Maybe Western Europe. The Azores are looking pretty good.
