police shakedown

Yesterday in Paraiso in the canal area I was stopped at a police checkpoint. I was written a ticket for not having a Panamanian license now that I have my resident card. They threatened to impound my rentalcar and even took the keys for awhile. I then had to "pay the ticket" and was let go.

Anyone know if you have to immediately get a Panamanian license after getting your ID card? (My attorney is on vacation!)
