Health Care

Hi, I am considering Panama for retirement a little way down the road. From what I have read, Healthcare costs less than in the US. And if I understand correctly, Medicare cannot be used outside of the US, nor any of the Medicare Plus/Gap, whatever.

Do most people buy their own health insurance policies for living in Panama? Or do they wing it, as it's supposedly costs so much less? I am in very good health now, but who knows what the future holds.

And also for hopefully far, far down the road if I were to need it, are there assisted living facilities and nursing homes in Panama? And if so, are they good quality as it sounds like the hospitals are?
