A year ago I married a girl from the Dominican Republic. We were married here in David. She had a visa for one year as people from the Dominican Republic are required to have a visa to enter the country. When she applied for a new visa they refused to give it to her claiming our marriage was not legitimate because of our age difference. Since I am a Panamanian citizen normally that should qualify her for a visa. There doesn't seem to be a way to get her back into the country. I have gone through mountains of paperwork and a lots of of expense. I am getting to the point where I am really disgusted with the government of Panama. I am quite fluent in Spanish and have talked to everybody imaginable including several lawyers and people in the government. In addition I have quite a bit of experience dealing with Latin American red tape but presently I seem to have hit a brick wall. So after 17 years here and becoming a citizen I am thinking of moving to another country. Of course I could go to the Dominican Republic but I am not sure I want to live there. The passport of the Dominican Republic is not so good. There are only four countries in Latin America where Dominicans can go without a visa. It is Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador and Guatemala. With a Panamanian passport you can travel to large number of countries without a visa. In fact I haven't used my American passport since I got my Panamanian passport. Anyhow maybe I will move to Colombia. I am not sure but we have some people in the government here that really suck. The only other option is to somehow smuggle her into the country since once she is here you can't tell by looking at her that she is not Panamanian. Her accent is a little different that is all.
