bringing sewing machine to Panama

My hubby and I are planning on moving to Panama (Boquete) in early January. I am a quilter and would really like to bring one of my sewing machines (the more expensive one) with me as I'm afraid what might happen to it if shipped at later date.
Anyone have experience with bringing a sewing machine into the country?
