Cruise to Panama

We are moving to Panama next year. We are leaving from Miami, and we would like to consider the option of taking a cruise to Panama instead of flying. Has anyone done this or have any advice? We are willing to consider buying a cruise that goes through the canal, and just getting off in Panama City, but I am a complete newbie at all this, and I have little clue where to start or how to verify that we will be able to get off where we need to!
