Uber

After living in PTY for 5 weeks without a car I am a little confused about Uber. Uber drivers never seem to know where the pickup spot is. 90% of the time they call or text to obtain/confirm the information. That never happens in the states so wondering what is different here with the Uber system. Does anyone have any insight?
