Pensionado visa paperwork

Hello,
I am back in Canada for a few weeks before returning to Panama and finally applying for the Pensionado visa. Could anyone tell me the type of documents I should obtain here to facilitate the application once in David. What kind of proof is needed to confirm the 1 000 US monthly pension minimum ? Do they need letters from the government or just look at your bank statements ?
