What's going on in Colon?

Hi there,
I'm currently in Australia, but hopefully will be moving soon.

I'm reading a lot about the protests going on in Colon, but what exactly are they protesting about?
I asked my partner who lives in Chiriqui - but he just says that Colon people are all animals - I suspect there's a better explanation than that!
