Car Rental & Gas Prices

Plan to visit Panama in late August. Will spend 2 nights in PCity, then head to Coronado Golf and Beach Resort for 4 days. Want to explore the beach area from Pedasi to San Carlos. How long a trip is it from the city to Coronado if I go by bus vs. renting a car in the city? Would it be better to rent a car once at the beach? In Belize gas prices are at $11 per gal are they equally high in Panama?
