Driving to Panama

Has anyone driven to Panama within the last year or so? Thinking of putting a truck camper on my truck and driving down with my dogs instead of flying them. After renting or buying a home, then using the camper to see the "sights" of Panama and Central America, and if the ferry from Colon is still running, visiting Colombia and beyond.
