Taking a Scouting trip

Happy New Year to All~

My family and I are in the gathering part of our move out of the US. Panama is our first stop.

Does anyone have advice about what we should look for on our first visit? Real Estate, neighborhoods, etc. Also, what our kids should look for while we are there on a scouting trip? I.e. schools, recreation, organized sports. They are preteens.

Any advice is welcomed.
