First Time Visit

My wife and I are an African American Couple (55 & 57) respectively that are considering Panama as a retirement home. We are just in the beginning stages of investigating this option as we have about 8-10 years before we make our decision to move. We are planning our initial visit to Panama City in December of this year for 6 days. Besides a tour of Panama City, we don't have anything else planned and wanted to spend most of our time just getting a feel for the environment and the people. That being said, I'm wondering what else some of you would recommend as a first time visit "to do" list?
