For years I have been one of Boquete biggest critics for a variety of valid reason but mostly for the exceptionally repulsive and often illegal conduct often perpetrated by Boquete’s expatriate community. There are many other reasons not to like Boquete but the self-serving expats are on the top of the list of negatives.
There are other issues (many other issues) that affect Boquete’s dismal quality of life which further justifies the negativity of those who aren’t inclined to “sugar coat” everything about Boquete. Right now the contractors who repaved the road in the center of town is trying to fix their design flaws and are having to go back and address the undeveloped road shoulders that butt up against the incredibly decapitated sidewalks (what little there is left of them). These clowns are now adding elevated concrete water traps on the edges of the new asphalt payment to try and correct a design flaw that would and will still allow surface runoff from the streets to overflow onto much of the low lying sidewalks that are now located below the grade of the new pavement.
This newest trick (design flaw) will now insure that the sidewalks are inundate with water shed from the streets and will also force much of this water runoff into store shop entrances which are also now located below the grade of the street thanks to the brilliant contractors including the local government who approved all the work. Is it any wonder why Boquete’s home values have plummeted in recent years with the dismal state of Boquete’s infrastructure and incompetent local officials?
Speaking of work, the poor quality workmanship of the installation of the new water line is failing in multiple locations and causing high pressure water leaks under the freshly paved main road as evidenced by the multitude of wet spots above the newly installed pipes. This was anticipated as the contractor never took the initiative (and probably wasn’t required under the contract) to test the lines before back filling and paving overt them. Now they have to go back and rip up the brand new streets and fix the deficiencies (assuming they have the intellect). And now that the rainy season has arrived the roads are usually wet anyway so it will mask the water leaks for a long time all the while causing considerable damage to the subsurface and road bed and by the time the damage is recognizable the warranty for the contractors work will have expired so the municipality will be left to deal with it and we all know how well the things are maintained in Panama.
So if you are under the illusion that Boquete’s road will be nice and new for years to come well then you must be drinking too much of that Boquete cool-aide.
And if the piss poor condition of Boquete’s infrastructure isn’t enough to cause you to arrive at an informed decision to avoid the area then check out this latest criminal case involving an American resident of Boquete’s expatriate community.
This crap never seems to end, let’s see how the well the propaganda machine of Boquete will try to defend or downplay this latest saga-in Boquete.
