Changes to Work Permit Rules

Last week, Immigration and the Labor department changed the rules for work permits issued under a Friendly Nations Visa.

Previously, the work permit was an indefinite work permit

Now, the work permit is only good for 3 years then you'll have to pay a fee to renew for another 3 years.

Those of us who have existing work permits will not be affected by the new rules. It is only for new work permits issued.

There is speculation that there will be further changes to the Friendly Nations Visa when we get a new President in July. But maybe the 3-year work permit will be the only change. Time will tell.
