Hi, my first post for what I hope will be my future home! I'll be in Panama this coming January, March, and April to evaluate three possible areas to retire to: a jungle (north of Chepo) in January, an island (Bocas del Toro) in February, and a cooler farming area in March. I've signed up to volunteer on farms in Jan and Feb in exchange for a room and food, an inexpensive method of visiting that I've had success with in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. I'd like to evaluate the Volcan area in March but I can't find any volunteering opportunities, short of the usual hostel/hotel work (reception & housekeeping & bars). Can anyone suggest anything? Or perhaps alternate areas of the country with similar weather & farming? I'm looking for a rural quiet area, as much or more Spanish than expat. Thanks!
