Hi to all,
I'm a new member here and possible future expat in Panama. Of course, I have many questions and, before you ask, I will visit before I move!
One important subject is personal security. I've noticed that when "crime in Panama" is discussed, it's mostly ad hoc individual stories of crimes. I live now in a densely populated area of Tampa Bay, FL.There is crime all around, but I haven't experienced any personally in 15 years of iiving here (although my spouse was subjected to an attempted car hijack in a sketchy area). But a single crime does not a pattern or trend make.
So I'm interested both in numbers and types of crime, but also in suggestions from all of you on deterrence. What do I need to do to be safe if I move to Panama? Specifically, over two years of research, I've become interested in both Boquete and the islands of Bocas del Toro, with a preference for the latter.
I'd be interested in your thoughts!
John
