Bringing our first wave of stuff

We are in the baby beginning stages of planning a move to (very likely) Panama. As soon as we sell the property we live in, I would like to check it out by living there (somewhere!) for several months.

My question is, what is your experience with bringing stuff there for a shorter term, such as kitchen stuff and clothing? If we are going for 3-6 months, we would like to bring more than would fit in our suitcases, but less than we would eventually want to ship, once we decided to become permanent residents.

Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,

Jessica
