Panama for retirement

We are hoping to retire within the next two years. I am tired of seeing the news unfold here in the US. Am I naive to think moving to Panama will ease the angst and stress of what we are watching now? Would love a nice, 70-80* climate. Some beaches. Perhaps part time work. Safety. Shops/restaurants, and kind friendly people. What do expats suggest and what are you experiences compared to the USA? Especially anyone who has perhaps moved in last 2-4 years.
