Gardening is one of the most popular hobbies in the USA especially among people of retirement age. One thing that sets Panama apart from most of the USA is that it is tropical and frost free. Being frost free offers unique opportunities to people who like gardening. Chiriqui offers rich black volcanic soil with a high humous content. In addition to the soil you have a choice of elevations with different climatic zones. And unless you are at a very high elevation it is all frost free. Having a hobby like gardening gives you a reason to not only move here but to want to stay once you are here. When you plant a lot of things on your property you are creating a bond between yourself and a piece of land. Panamanians love flowers and ornamental plants. They love to share starts of things to plant on your place. They love to give you advice about what will grow well. A hobby greenhouse is very worthwhile and will protect certain plants from excessive rainfall during the wetter parts of the year. And of course you won't need to heat it. All in all an interest in gardening is a great reason to retire to Panama and will help you to make friends and not be bored once you are here. i think Panama needs to be better promoted as a good retirement location for gardeners. If you order seeds from the USA Panama will allow them to come in through the mail which some other countries won't do. Another advantage.
