Today I received an e-mail advertisement from Banco General in relation to opening a new account. It says you can open a new account online without having to go to the bank and without making an initial deposit. The only catch is that you can't have a balance more than 5000 dollars nor can you have activity more than 5000 in any one month. The only requirement is your cedula and being over 18. You have to make a deposit within 120 days of opening the account. This is only available to new customers. Later you can visit the bank to change the restriction of a 5000 dollar limit by meeting their requirements. This seems to me a good way to get your foot in the door if you are new here and haven't had an account before.
