Round trip necessary?

Sorry if thus has been answered before. I haven't been able to fund a de-facto legal answer...
If my wife a n d I have in our possession our temporary resident visa's and our permanent visa are approved (will go to immigration for photos upon arrival) do we need a round trip ticket still? Seems that the Resident status would/should negate it??? We also own property in Panama. Planning a mid July start to our new life! Thanks to everyone!
