Just wanted to post an update to something that's come up in multiple threads recently, which is the current US State Department processing time for apostilles. I have plenty of time so I'm not using an apostille service, I sent everything directly via USPS around the beginning of June.
My paperwork was delivered to them 20 days ago and today I had a call from a most helpful State Department official. He was calling with a question about something specific to my paperwork, but I did mention I was surprised they were processing it so quickly as I'd heard there was a backlog. He said they're running around 5 weeks for most documents, but they are prioritizing FBI background check apostilles (and a couple other things) as those have a tight expiration date in several countries. Thought I'd share the information here in case it's helpful to anyone else.
