Where to visit in Panama?

My first recon trip got cancelled due to schedule conflicts and then illness, so now we are looking at a family trip to Panama in December to scout some areas of Panama that we may like to spend time in and possibly move to. We thought about flying into PC and then spending a few days in different places along the way to experience their differences, ending in Volcan.
What suggestions for places to visit would any of you have? There will be 4 adults and 3 children.
