Banking from Europe

Is it possible to open an account with the Panamanian state banks, Banco Nacional de Panama and Caja de Ahorros, or for that matter the private bank, Banco General, while living in Europe?

I am primarily interested in fixed term deposits and understand that those banks will require a permanent residence permit or e-cedula to open an account, and be initially funded through another local bank.

However, I am uncertain if that also requires maintaining a permanent physical residence in Panama as well.

Thank you
