Bringing Cash into Panama

I know this seems pretty straight forward but I usually do not carry much cash on me. We will be in Panama for 6 weeks and I was planning to bring about $1,500 in cash in $1s, $5s, and $10s.

I am thinking the best way to get this into the country via airfare is to carry this in my carry on bag. Just seems a little unnerving to carry this much. I know we have to prove we have $500 so that would be the minimum.

What's peoples thoughts on bring cash into the country? How and How much?

I will have a TD Ameritrade/Schwab debit card to access ATMs with a refundable fee so I am good there. I also have a couple credit cards that do not have a foreign transaction fee so that is also good. I was also recommended to get the Wise app for money transfer but I am not certain I need for a 6 week trip.

Thanks,
RC
