We’re visiting Santa Catalina from our home in Boquete for the first time.
It’s too soon to do a full review, but the 4+ hour drive was tolerable. Minimal traffic after passing David (Monday morning.) The road was rough in places but mostly OK.
Hotel Santa Catalina is clean and quite attractive but is NOT beachfront or beach view. Could probably hear the surf if I shut off the A/C and opened the windows but it's warm and muggy outside.
You can walk to the beach but it’s rocky and doesn’t look like a good place to swim. There is a sandy beach somewhere nearby and we will look for it tomorrow.
I was expecting better kitchen facilities in the room. What is provided is minimal.
The open air restaurant looks nice and has an ocean view but we haven’t tried it yet.
Waze took us to the downtown area which is rather hairy and NOT where our hotel is located. There are several shabby hostels, bars, restaurants etc and the beach is right there at the end of the road. The surf was quite vigorous this afternoon. Looks like it appeals to surfers and younger tourists.
