Dealing with Customs in Spain

I am moving from the US to Madrid for 6 months with my family. I wish to mail a few boxes of personal clothing, books, and some used personal items for our apartment. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to minimize duties I would have to pay (if any), and to minimize confusion and delay dealing with Spanish customs authorities? I have not been able to find clear information about this yet from Spanish customs.
