Does a UK Work Visa help with obtaining a Spanish one?

Hello all...

I'm an American citizen who has recently been relocated with my company to London - I have a 5 year work permit/visa with the UK. All is well, however I would like to move over to Madrid to improve my Spanish-speaking skills... My company is fairly flexible and my job keeps me traveling so my "base" can pretty much be any EU country... My question is, will having a UK work permit help or hurt?

I haven't been able to find anything on the subject and I have called to a number of places, and I haven't been able to get a understandable answer...
