Us Cit. getting a Spainsh driver's license

Hi all,

My family and I are moving to Madrid, Spain in a few months. I can't seem to find any solid information about obtaining a Spanish drivers liscense. I am an American citizen coming from Portland, Oregon, so does anyone know how long I can keep my American driver's license and legally drive in Spain? Or can I get a Spanish driver's license without taking the courses and the test?

My husband is a Spanish citizen and currently has a license, so he's set. Thanks for any information.
