How to spend time in Spain?

This is our first time to visit Spain. My friend and I will spend 10-12 days for this trip in May. Our first stop will be in Barcelona but have no idea as to where to go next, how long to stay in a particular city, what to do, what to see...
We are not really into museums and would prefer parks, historical places, shopping area, structures, foods..just looking for a good, memorable, fun experience in Spain.
