Visa necessary for short stay?

My spouse and I are planning on visiting Barcelona for a bit over week in June. We have U.S. Passports. Do we need any kind of pre-approval? We are considering emmigration or long-term stay. I am still working but of retirement age with an expected retirement income of at least 80K per year. My husband is in his mid-forties with military disability income of around 35K per year. In addition, he has a master;s degree in social work. Does this sound feasible in a smaller city?
