Long Term Visa

I will be receiving a long term visa for Spain (one year) in January 2018. My plan is to stay in Spain for 3 months, then consider 3 months in Portugal, France and then Italy. My Spanish Long Term Visa and the residence card should allow me to go anywhere in Europe for the year, so long as I leave Spain at the end of my Visa stay. Anyone have any thoughts about this plan?
