Non-lucrative visa

I'm applying for a Spanish Non-Lucrative visa (in Washington DC) and plan to stay in Spain 10 months before college. I can show income from my US job and also part of the $ in the bank (but not the entire $30k). Does anyone know if they would accept a letter from parents assuming full financial responsibility as a backup (like the student visa requirement)? thanks!
