Madrid?

I am a single woman who is looking to retire to Spain within the next two years. I am living in Boston and I'm used to and enjoy city life which makes me think I would be happier in a neighborhood within a larger metropolitan city in Spain. Thinking about Madrid and wondering if anyone on here could share their experience. Particularly neighborhoods to focus on. I want to be in a walkable area (no car) with easy access to mass transit and local shops and markets where I can conduct my day to day life. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
