Visa Question: Extended time in Sri Lanka

Hi, My wife and I (USA) choose one country each year to live in 6-7 months (Nov 1 to May 31). We'd like to live in Sri Lanka next year. From the SL website It looks like the best visas we could get would be:

2012: 30 day on arrival (nov) and a renewal for another 30 (dec)...60 total.

2013: Same as above...60 days total (jan & feb).

The site says you're only allowed two 30 day visas in any calendar year.

Does anyone have experience in getting visa extensions for extended living in SL

We're not volunteers, teachers or starting a business just a couple that likes to live in cool places every year.
