Car Insurance

Can anyone share their experience with me.

I'm a resident here and have been for 6 months. Turkish law says that a foreigner can drive for up to 12 months on their foreign license. The problem however seems to be that, in spite of this, car insurance companies will take your money (even though you declare that you're driving on a foreign license) but if you're involved in an accident, they refuse to cover the costs, BECAUSE you are driving on a foreign license!

I have therefore had to apply for a Turkish one which I have been informed could take up to 4 months to be approved!! So I have a car, but it looks like I can't drive it.

Anyone shed some light on this?
